BART’s (Bay Area Rapid Transit) most recent campaign “Bay Area Rides Together” gets loud and proud about inclusivity. Their posters in stores, businesses, and BART cars all over the Bay rep the quote “On this train, everyone is welcome.” Hundreds of thousands of riders see this everyday.
“[The public] wanted us to reaffirm that BART is a safe place for everybody,” Board President Rebecca Saltzman said on BART’s website.
“All races, colors, religions, genders, ages, veterans, sexual orientations, the disabled and those of foreign national origin are welcome on BART.”
With increased hate crimes and violence – like the tragic loss of 17-year-old Nabra Hassanen – many don’t feel safe in public spaces anymore, and messages like these mean a lot. It’s important to make a big deal when cities, companies, and people stand up to protect *all* of their inhabitants – we need more of this. Let’s shift these messages from an *unusual* ad to an *everyday* one we see on our daily commute.
