Born from flames of the 2016 election, Crooked Media rose from the ashes like a magnificent phoenix and jettisoned straight into podcast fame.
Built by former Obama staffers, veteran journalists, and grassroots activists, this primarily pod-based media company offers up levity, accessibility, and unlikely conversations. “We couldn’t find a place to talk about politics the way actual human beings talk. So we decided to create one,” the founders state on their site.
Here are three of our favorites that will seriously make your laundry folding really, really fun:
Pod Save America is political commentary “for people not yet ready to give up or go insane.” Jon Favreau, Jon Lovett, Dan Pfeiffer and Tommy Vietor serve up a slice of levity while they unpack the unsettling weekly news.
Pod Save the World is a show on activism and social justice hosted by DeRay Mckesson. ICYMI, Mckesson got Twitter famous for his spot-on political commentary, and has spent the last few years doing anti-police violence advocacy work in the south. Find him on this pod talking with whistleblower Edward Snowden or pop queen Katy Perry.
With Friends Like These – hosted by Ana-Marie Cox – is a weekly pod that discusses what does and doesn’t create division. Go here if you wanna hear Black people talk about the ‘good kind’ of white pride, or a former climate change denier talk about finding his way out of the dark – this is the pod for you. Really interesting, totally relevant.
“We promise a no-bullshit conversation about politics where you can laugh, cry, scream, ridicule us daily, share your ideas, and hopefully decide that you want to help fix this mess too.”
Now hurry up and listen. There’s work to be done.
