Professor and dyed-in-the-wool punk rocker Mimi Nguyen wants to create a new kind of world—with a strong emphasis on ‘create’. Lately, there’s been a lot of talk about practical, method-based approaches to positive change. And that’s fine, Mimi says, but let’s not forget the power that imagination has to blaze new trails and uncover solutions hiding outside the box.

Unfettered exploration in the name of social justice – that’s Mimi’s philosophy. She teaches Gender & Women’s Studies and Asian American Studies at The University of Illinois, and literally wrote the book on refugee life in the US. Basically, when something strikes her interest she throws herself at it hard.
