Adidas just released a sneaker made of 95% recycled ocean plastics. They’re called the Parley UltraBoost X and people wanting a pair of the quick-to-sellout sneaks are left asking,“More, please!”
The shoes reclaim about 11 plastic bottles per pair – meaning everything from the laces to the sock liners use recycled materials. While Adidas have done small-run eco styles in the past, this time they aim to produce 1 million pairs by the end of the year.
Big corporations have been arguing that recycled ocean plastic isn’t a viable material, but Adidas – a company beholden to shareholders just like any other – just showed us it’s possible and affordable. It’s another example of how sustainability and profitability can be one and the same.
