Rise of Feminist Witches Disrupts New York City Patriarchy

No fancy phones. No apps. Arianna Gil and Sheyla Grullon – founders of NYC’s Brujas skate crew – are building a community of strong, lady heshers the old school way. Face to face and scar to scar.

Born and raised in the city, Arianna and Sheyla started Brujas to carve out a space for women in the male-dominated world of skateboarding. The crew grew fast. And they grew strong. Cause the thing is — Brujas aren’t just rippers, they’re intensely smart and like to get sh*t done.

Like creating workshops that help young women navigate the harsh gentrification of NYC. Or cultivating a tight-knit crew with an aim at feminist empowerment. And throwing parties because, well, fun. Skating’s just a jumping off point for Brujas’ mission of radical, inclusive community building.

They’re skate witches working some seriously good magic. And we want more.
