Pharrell Discovers Talented NYU Music Student

Maggie Rogers’ single ‘Alaska’ is causing chatter – it’s fresh and edgy, different from what she grew up playing.

Maggie, soft-spoken and humble, totally deserves the praise. Inspired by her outdoorsy Maryland childhood paired with a new love for dance music after a trip to France, the piece is its own beast.

 

 

When artist and producer Pharrell heard the song during his visit to the music department at NYU, it left him fumbling for words – quite an unusual moment for this gregarious musician.

“I’ve never heard anyone like you before, or anyone that sounds like that… that’s a drug for me,” Pharrell said (once he remembered how to speak). And then he compared her originality to Wu-Tang. Compliments don’t get much better than that.
