Good things are brewing in Colorado. Lots of beer of course, but also sustainable business models where employees are rewarded for their commitment.
Kim Jordan, the founder of New Belgium Brewing, shifted the company over to an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP), where the workers start accruing stock after a year of employment. Essentially, the $225 million business is mostly employee-owned.
“There are few times in life where you get to make choices that will have multi-generational impact – this is one of those times. We have an opportunity to write the next chapter of this incredible story and we’re really excited about that,” said New Belgium CEO and co-founder, Kim Jordan, states on their site.
Jordan says this is “a form of honoring human capital and its contribution to a vibrant business milieu”––a sentiment deeply resonates with us.
She wants her team invested in the growth of their careers and the company. We bet that, because of this, they’re doing more inspired work and calling in sick less frequently.
