Lolo Jones may be the next coolest thing on the Internet, thanks to her web series focused on life with a disability.
She’s an open book with a thing or two to say, and the way she tells you comes with the perfect amount of spunk and sass. On her Youtube channel, she covers all things from boy talk (because we’re never too old for that), to wheelchair fashion, to how to meditate.
“Our lives are not defined by outer appearance, a doctor’s diagnosis, or another’s judgments. Instead our bright spirits, positive beliefs, and the strength we exude everyday are forever.”
At 14 she was diagnosed with a neurological degenerative disease called ALS, which left her permanently wheelchair bound. To this, she simply says: “This is who I am. This is a part of me.”
She shows us that having a disability isn’t a divisive factor to the rest of the population. We all have our own challenges to get through and that they are, in fact, more similar than we think.
“Regardless of my disability, I’m still a woman, I’m still a person, and I still go through things,” she says in one of her videos. “I’m showing a different side of disability. Are you ready to see what this life is really all about?”
