Muslim-American Dad Donates Blood After PULSE Shooting

This weekend cast a dark shadow on our country. After the shooting in Orlando, Florida, we mourn those lost and wonder what is to be done.

People from all backgrounds are coming forward to help pick up the pieces. Mahmoud ElAwadi – Muslim-American and father of two – did is one of thousands who braved the hot Florida heat yesterday to donate blood for those injured in the attack.

“Our blood all look the same so get out there and donate blood cause our fellow American citizens are injured and need our blood,” ElAwadi wrote on Facebook.

This motion saved lives and was a powerful gesture of solidarity towards those who were lost and those who are still vulnerable. It’s like they were all saying, “Whatever you need – we’re here for you.”

This gesture has particular importance to Mahmoud. His son was hospitalized a couple years back and needed two bags of blood each day to survive.

“Let’s put our colors, religions, ethnicity, sexual orientation, political views all aside so we can UNITE,” he continued on his post.

This unity in diversity is something to celebrate. In the wake of this tragedy, it’s one way we can begin to pick up the pieces and look again toward making the future a place for all of us.

Rise up! Hit share.
