Theresa Sparks has worn a lot of hats in her life, many of which she fashioned herself. She’s a real do-er, and a do-gooder to boot.
After coming out as trans in the late 80s, she made trans rights a life priority. She knew, firsthand, the trauma and difficulty of living an existence that much of society either condemned or erased. So she moved to SF and pursued a long string of really influential positions, and kicked butt in all of ‘em.
Whether it’s rallying in the Harvey Milk Plaza, vying for better trans representation, rocking it as CEO at sex-positive Good Vibrations, or serving as SF Police Commissioner––her goal is always inclusivity and trans advocacy.
In the past couple of years, she’s brought in more than $1.5 million in grants supporting trans health, employment, and education.
Now, she’s just hopped on as Senior Advisor in trans initiatives for SF’s Mayor Lee where she’ll keep the trans community included all the city’s conversations. Looks like not only the Castro will be rainbow-friendly.
Keep your eye out for the next big project she takes on and will (most certainly) totally slay, because we expect nothing less from this sparkly Mrs. Sparks.
