Two Girls Invent Best, Inclusive Superhero Costume Ever

Casey Pearlman and Yasmin Idris are two teens from Laguna Niguel, California who decided they needed to invent their own superhero for Halloween. Superman or Wonder Woman just wouldn’t do.

They called themselves ‘Juslims’ and one of their superpowers is to ‘watch each other’s back’. They donned striped leggings and capes with the letters JM painted on in glitter glue. The Internet almost broke because of it.

“The delightful thing about their costume is that it was thoughtless,” Casey’s mom, Catherine, told Upworthy. “It was so authentic to the nature of who they are and their friendship.”

Catherine went on to note that perhaps the most extraordinary realization was that what they were doing wasn’t extraordinary or political to them. “They don’t feel different to each other. They feel like eighth-grade girls.”

We create divisions through difference. Thus, we can choose inclusivity. That’s a lesson to include in every book – our diversity is what makes us powerful.
