Hold My Hand, Man

Search the hashtag #allemannenhandinhand and you’re guaranteed to smile. The backstory is tragic, but the response is beautiful.

In Dutch the phrase means ‘all men, holding hands’. And that’s what you’ll find—a bunch of happy guys, hands clasped in solidarity with the worldwide LGBTQ community.

It started early Sunday morning. Dutch couple Jasper Vernes-Sewratan and Ronnie Sewratan-Vernes were walking home hand-in-hand when they were brutally attacked by a gang of homophobes. One of the victims posted on Facebook afterward and the Internet world spoke up.

Over the next few days Dutch men – from cops, to UN employees, to the Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister – found a friend and held their hand.

This kind of PDA and outward allyship gives us heart eyes. So share this post. Then find a friend and hold their hand. First for Jasper and Ronnie. Then just because friends who hold hands are the best kind of friends.
